Is my personal information secure?
Yes. Everything you save in your CareTabs digital vault is locked, and each person you look after is locked separately with a key of their own. Your records are stored on Microsoft Azure and the keys are kept separately in Azure Key Vault, so nothing sitting in our database can be read on its own. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
How deep does the locking go?
All the way down. It isn’t just the file that’s locked — every line inside it is, right down to each part of a street address. Nothing sitting in our database can be read on its own.
Can I see who changed something?
Yes. There’s a plain history of every update — who made it and when. It deliberately never spells out what the record said, so the history itself gives nothing away.
What if I lose my phone or laptop?
Nothing is lost. Everything in your digital vault lives with us and is backed up every night, still locked. Sign in from any device and it’s all there — and signing out leaves nothing behind on a shared computer.
What do the separate keys actually mean?
Think of each person as their own locked box. Mom's box has one key, yours has a different one. Your key opens your box and nothing else, even inside the same account. And the keys aren't kept with the boxes — they're held somewhere separate, so finding one doesn't get you the other.
What do I get without paying?
As many people as you look after, plus every profile other people share with you, so your dashboard can show a parent, a spouse, or anyone who invites you, at no cost. You can share with as many people as you like, and you get 1 GB of document storage and full access to every record type: medical, insurance, finance, passwords, PINs, legal, pets, home and documents, plus global search, the Emergency Go Kit and sharing.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep everything you paid for until the end of the period you already paid for — cancelling now doesn’t cut you off today, and you can change your mind any time before that date and pick the plan back up with nothing lost. After that you’re simply back on free. Nothing is deleted because a plan ended: every profile, document and record stays there, readable and downloadable. If you’re over the free 1 GB you just can’t add new files until you’re back under.
What happens when I run out of storage?
Nothing is locked. Everything already stored stays fully readable and editable, and your usage sits quietly in the sidebar and on your account page. You'll only see an upgrade prompt at the moment you try to add a file that won't fit, with the option to free up space instead.
Can I share access with family members or caregivers?
Yes. You can invite family members or trusted caregivers to a profile with either Read Only access (view everything, change nothing) or Admin access (view and edit records on your behalf). You choose who gets access, one profile at a time, and you can cancel an invitation any time before it’s accepted. Sharing is unlimited on every plan, including free.
Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?
Yes, from your account settings at any time. You’re never charged twice and you never lose time you’ve already paid for — the switch is priced against the end of your current period, so the new rate simply starts with your next invoice. Annual saves 16%.
Is CareTabs a digital emergency binder?
Yes, one that stays current. Paper binders go stale the day a policy renews, and a binder in the house can't reach the ER. CareTabs assembles your Emergency Go Kit from live records, so what you print or pull up is always the latest version.
What should I organize for an aging parent?
Start with the Peace of Mind Checklist: ID and insurance cards, the medication list, physicians, powers of attorney, and where the accounts are. You don't need everything to start. You need a place to put what you find.
Is CareTabs SOC 2 certified?
Not yet, and we won't claim it until it's earned. We've begun preparing for a SOC 2 audit, the independent review of how a company protects customer data, because the families who trust us and the partners who back CareTabs deserve proof, not just our word. The protections are already in place: each person's records are encrypted with AES-256 using their own key, stored on Microsoft Azure with the keys kept separately in Azure Key Vault. Sensitive fields stay masked until you tap Reveal, everything travels over an encrypted connection, and payments go through Stripe.
